Six Seasons Kambarang Field Trip- Kent River

26/11/2023 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Free

It is a warmer and drier season, coaxing reptiles out of hibernation! The warmer weather spurs on a second spring, resulting in bushfoods starting to fruit and ripen. Visiting Millars Basin or Gnowerbup will give you an opportunity to learn about fresh water fish species living in the water catchment.

Murdoch University researchers Mark Allen and Stephen Beatty will discuss their current research project investigating the freshwater biodiversity within natural water refuges and artificial water points and the impact of declining rainfall on species which rely on freshwater sources.

Through the fifth field trip it is hoped to focus on Noongar cultural practices of catching freshwater fish species. The field trip will be an opportunity for participants to gain a better understanding of the Noongar seasons and the changes experienced within the local environment. It is hoped it will be an opportunity for the community to build a stronger cultural understanding of the significance of places around Denmark.
