DESCRIPTION:Come along to the grand Opening of the Denmark Bird Group’s Art Exhibition ‘For the Love of Owls’ from 1:30pm on Saturday 3rd August at the Denmark Community Resource Centre Gallery\nCome and see the works of our amazing local artists – yes everything owls! Watercolour\, pottery\, photography\, Eco dye\, and so\, so much more.\nArt work will be on sale. Attend the grand Opening and enjoy some nibbles\, chat to artists and have the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket to go into the draw for some amazing prizes. \nThis exhibition is open daily from 10am-3pm for three weeks from Sunday 4th until Friday 23rd August. \nThe Denmark Bird Group is conducting a Denmark Owl Campaign to raise awareness amongst the community of the negative and deadly effects of secondary rat/mice poisons on our owls and raptors. We will be showcasing successful citizen science projects from around South West WA as well as hearing from a panel of local speakers explaining the current opportunities in and around Denmark. \nOur panel of Denmark speakers are as follows:\nEungedup Wetlands- Shaun Ossinger- Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee\nCockies for Cockies Project- Tim Gamblin-Wilson Inlet Catchment Committee\nMt Hallowell BioBlitz- Holly Pepper- Denmark Environment Centre\nBeach Nesting Birds Project- Lisa Nicholson- Birdlife Australia\nPre-prescribed Burn Surveys- Jeff Spencer- Denmark Bird Group\nFriends of Mt Hallowell (Kooryunderup)- Steph Tchan\nSome information about our other two speakers: \nFirst we will be hearing from Dr Bronte Van Helden from UWA Albany and how the citizen scientists involved in the ‘Turning Gardeners into Conservationists’ project have uncovered new knowledge about the animals that visit gardens in southwestern Australia\, and which wildlife-friendly gardening activities best support wildlife.\nThis will be followed by the Denmark Panel.\nThen after morning tea we will be watching the very recently released film “Night Calling” introduced by Dr Boyd Wykes\, on how Australia’s first owl friendly community came to be and how citizen science helped in making the Augusta Margaret River Region a safe haven for owls and other wildlife from Rodenticide poisoning.
